Pascal Siakam: From Benchwarmer to NBA Superstar
Early Life and Basketball Career
Pascal Siakam was born on April 2, 1994, in Douala, Cameroon. He began playing basketball at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the game. In 2012, he moved to the United States to play basketball at New Mexico State University.At New Mexico State, Siakam quickly became a star player. He led the team in scoring and rebounding in both his sophomore and junior seasons. In 2016, he was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. After his junior season, Siakam declared for the NBA draft, where he was selected 27th overall by the Toronto Raptors.
NBA Career
Siakam's NBA career got off to a slow start. He spent his first two seasons mostly on the bench, averaging just over 4 points per game. However, in the 2018-19 season, he broke out as a star. He started 79 games for the Raptors and averaged 16.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.Siakam continued to improve in the 2019-20 season, averaging 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He helped lead the Raptors to their first NBA championship in franchise history. Siakam was named the NBA Most Improved Player for the 2019-20 season.
