Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested at Scene

The Columbus Blue Jackets are in mourning today following the tragic death of forward Johnny Gaudreau in a car crash in New Jersey.

According to police, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Route 80 in Parsippany. Gaudreau was driving his car when he was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.

Gaudreau was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, 25-year-old John Smith, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Gaudreau, 29, was a rising star in the NHL. He was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2011 and played for the team for seven seasons before signing with the Blue Jackets in 2022.
